halloween art night
art night is a select group of artists getting together once a quarter to show their work, socialize, and gain valuable feedback from other artists. it’s truly an honor to be invited to participate in this event.
evenings like art night leave me thinking obsessively about how other artists approach their work. i love hearing about how ideas come to fruition, and having the ability to pick an artists brain over a spread of tasty treats.

i’m looking forward to attending the next art night. events like this motivate me to continue what i love to do. it gives me something to think about and to live for.

i’ve been working hard setting up my photo web site these past few days. i’m almost finished uploading, naming, and organizing things.
naming and describing the photos seems to be the hardest part for me. i’m not sure why, but i like photos so speak for themselves, but i really dislike when a piece of art is listed as untitled. hopefully i didn’t name anything too cheesy.
i’m really anxious to finish the site so i can free up some time to take more photos for you.

i spent my evening snuggled next to mark with my laptop perched on my knees watching the world series and organizing photos.
i made the leap and purchased a space to display and sell my photos. as soon as i’m finished uploading and organizing things, i’ll be sure to share the link.

i’m really close to opening up a little storefront for my photos. i think i found the perfect solution that will handle printing, shipping and payment processing with very little intervention from me. i like this because i would much rather spend my time taking photos than wasting time fiddling with techy stuff. it took me quite a while to find something that would work, and while i’m still kicking the tires on the site’s capabilities, i’m getting excited, and leaning towards dropping a few bucks on it.
a few things i need to think about are…
Pricing (The dreaded pricing and weeeeird zone)
i have set up temporary pricing on the storefront for each photo, but i’m not sure if i’m being reasonable. i don’t want to set pricing too high and scare people away, but i also don’t want to set pricing so low that my photos appear cheap.
i don’t expect to make lots of money selling photos, but people seem to be showing a little interest, which is really cool.
there’s this weird zone people fall in to when showing interest in your photos, or art, or artistic services. if they are friends, you feel bad charging them for anything. and even if you don’t get weirded out by charging your friends, your friends might get weirded out because, hey, friends are friends (or even friends of friends), right? they might think you are not supposed to charge them. Weeeeird.
i think having a store front helps everyone get through the weird zone a little quicker.
Grouping
i have to group photos in to specific categories. i’m not exactly sure how to categorize things yet because it’s something i’ve ever had to do before. should i group things by objects, landscapes, people etc., or should i do more of an artistic grouping of black and whites, abstracts etc.? shit..maybe i should do groupings for all.
i wish i could give you the link to what i have up so far, but I can’t just yet. i want to make sure everything is perfect before sharing. oh, and please please please… I don’t expect anyone who reads my tumblr to buy anything. I’m just sharing in the excitement and process of it all.
