Delaney talked Ethan in to a brother and sister shot. It took me at least five clicks to get one with both of them looking in to the camera.

Let’s face it. Kids can be a pain in the ass to shoot.
This little guy didn’t want anything to do with me or the camera. In fact, the second I pointed the lens at him, he would run away. It was his little game.
Here are a few ways I deal with photographing kids.
1. Get them engaged. Show them the camera. Let them see a few photos you’ve taken. Show them a photo of themselves after you take it. Ask them to hop around a little to get a photo of them in the air. Make it fun!
2. Totally ignore the kid. Take pictures of everyone else but them. They will eventually feel left out and want you to take their picture. They might even beg you to do it! This method takes a while, but if you have time and a little patience this can method can work. If there are a bunch of kids around, focus on the one kid that doesn’t mind having their picture taken and make a huge fun deal out of it. Most kids want to participate where there’s something fun going on.
3. LIE! (The easiest method). I had to break down and lie with little Ethan (pictured above). I told him there was a tiny little sponge bob square pants inside the lens.
